Alaskans Are Leaving
Alaska is facing a slow but constant crisis: our community members are leaving, and with them, the future of our state. From young Alaskans who want to chart their future in states that they feel will offer them a better chance to reach their fullest potential, to our community members who feel as if they just can’t afford to live here anymore, we’re seeing Alaskans continue to stream out of the state in an outmigration crisis that we have to not only address, but solve.
We have to stop outmigration and keep Alaska community members in Alaska. That means:
- Supporting increases to school funding, like the BSA increase which was so unfortunately vetoed by our governor and his Republican cronies.
- Creating stable, good-paying union jobs for Alaskans that help them earn the pay they deserve at workplaces they can feel proud to be a part of.
- Doing everything we can to stabilize and bring down the costs of food, housing, and other needs so that Alaskas don’t feel as if they won’t be able to afford living here even if they want to.
Alaska Dems are leading the charge to make real changes that keep Alaskans of all generations and backgrounds wanting to continue growing as a part of our state, not outside of it. When you look at our efforts compared to those of our Republican colleagues who are maintaining a status quo that is making many in Alaska not want to call Alaska home, it’s clear who is working for Alaskans, and who is working against them.
