Sullivan and Begich Owe Alaskans Answers

Alaskans pride ourselves on resilience — caring for one another, showing up for our neighbors, and building communities where no one gets left behind. But right now, working families are being forced to shoulder more and more financial burdens in a time when many are barely getting by.

The “Big, Bullshit Bill” Was a Raw Deal From the Start

Let’s be honest: The Big, Bullshit Bill was never written with everyday Alaskans in mind. From day one, it stripped funding from essential programs that keep communities functioning — food assistance, affordable healthcare, and even public radio, one of the only statewide information networks rural residents can rely on.

Those cuts weren’t just budget line items. They hit real people, real families, and real communities.

Sullivan & Begich Voted Against Their Own Constituents

Dan Sullivan and Nick Begich had a choice. They could defend Alaskans, or they could cave to D.C. extremists, pushing harmful cuts to benefit the wealthy. They chose the latter.

Their votes threw Alaska families into uncertainty about whether they’ll be able to put food on the table, afford medical care, or stay informed. That’s not just bad policy, it’s a betrayal of the people they’re supposed to represent.

Hunger Doesn’t Disappear Just Because D.C. Stops Measuring it

Here’s the kicker. Extremist Republicans didn’t just cut essential support — they also canceled the USDA’s Household Food Security Report.

That report was the nation’s primary tool for tracking hunger, including in Alaska, where grocery costs can be triple those in the Lower 48. Eliminating it doesn’t solve hunger. It just hides it.

Now, politicians can claim no one is struggling because they deleted the evidence. That’s not leadership. That’s cowardice.

This Isn’t the Alaska Way — Standing Up for Working Families Starts Now

If nothing changes, tens of thousands of Alaskans could soon face food insecurity with no safety net to fall back on. Alaskans have always looked out for one another. We step up when times are hard, and we expect leaders to do the same. But D.C. politicians are gambling with our well-being while pretending everything is fine.

Alaskans deserve leaders who acknowledge hardship, measure it honestly, and fight to fix it. We deserve leaders who prioritize dignity, opportunity, and survival over political points.

This moment isn’t just about one bill. It’s about the direction of our state and the values we choose to defend. We can demand better, speak out, stay engaged, and lift up the voices of those most affected. Because no Alaskan should ever struggle in silence — and no elected official should be allowed to look the other way.
