Alaska Still Waiting for Recovery Funds After Typhoon Halong

Months after Typhoon Halong tore through Western Alaska — forcing the largest mass evacuation in state history and devastating homes, roads, and critical infrastructure — Alaskans are still waiting for the full federal recovery funding our communities were promised.

Sullivan Falls Short

New reporting confirms the federal government has denied Alaska’s request for full disaster reimbursement, leaving the state on the hook for millions of dollars. Hundreds of Alaskans remain in temporary housing, and communities are struggling to rebuild. Yet Senator Dan Sullivan came up empty-handed, failing to secure the resources Alaska desperately needs.

This follows his vote to defund local public radio stations and emergency alert systems — the very tools rural Alaskans rely on for life-saving storm warnings. When disaster struck, protections were weakened, and now funding is missing.

Why Leadership Matters

Alaskans know no one from the Lower 48 is coming to save us. Western Alaska is still picking up the pieces, and the state is being forced to shoulder costs it can’t afford.

Leadership matters — especially in moments of crisis. Alaska deserves a Senator who will fight like hell to bring home the resources our communities need to survive and rebuild. That’s why supporting candidates like Mary Peltola matters.
