Our Communities Feel Less Safe
As poverty and safety continue to define the realities of our communities, we have to do everything we can to create safer, prosperous futures for every person who calls our communities home.
Do you want to feel safe in your own community?
Over the years, the status quo that we have been saddled with has led to our communities feeling less safe, with crime being an increasing issue and many of our unhoused community members being forced to fend for themselves on the streets with little to no support. As Alaskans, we know the value of community, and the value of being able to feel safe and happy in the communities we’re a part of. For so many of us, that isn’t our reality, but that doesn’t have to be the case.
Alleviating poverty across the state and investing in the safety of our communities is possible, we just have to take the steps to make it happen. That means:
- Investing in real safety nets so that our most vulnerable can access the support they need to get back on their feet when they’re knocked off of them.
- Investing in our law enforcement statewide so that our communities have officials with the training and resources they need to tackle the immediate problems that are making so many feel unsafe.
- Getting our unhoused community members the support they need to get off the streets and be safe with a roof over their heads
Alaska Dems are leading the charge to make our communities safer and get vital resources to the community members who need them. When you look at our efforts compared to those of our Republican colleagues who are letting our most vulnerable suffer and uphold an unsustainable status quo that is making us all less safe, it’s clear who is working for Alaskans, and who is working against them.
