“Gas prices are sky-high, but this is a new low for Self-Serving Sullivan. Voting to raise costs for Alaskans, and then turning around and asking them to give him gas money? Disgraceful,” said Alaska Democratic Party Chair Eric Croft.
This comes as gas prices in Alaska are over $5 a gallon, and just days after Sullivan doubled down on his “steadfast” support of the war in Iran that is driving fuel prices to “apocalyptic” highs across Alaska. Meanwhile, Sullivan has dismissed Alaskans’ concerns about energy prices as mere “externalities.”

Sen. Dan Sullivan (R-AK) asked his campaign donors this month to chip in for gas money.
In a fundraising email titled “Alaska needs you!!” obtained by Raw Story, Sullivan told donors, “To continue ushering in America’s Golden Age and delivering results for Alaska, I’m personally reaching out to you to ask for a grassroots donation of $3, $5, or $10.”
The email continued: “Your donation will instantly go to the funds to […] Pay for gas as we visit isolated rural areas of Alaska.”
This comes just months after Sullivan proclaimed he was “steadfast” in his support for President Donald Trump’s war with Iran, which has resulted in the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, massive disruption in global energy markets, and a massive surge in gas prices across the United States.

Now, with the war approaching its fourth month and gas prices soaring nationwide—particularly in Alaska—Sullivan is asking donors to chip in for gas money, Raw Story reported.

Sullivan has voted eight times to authorize Trump to wage war without congressional approval, even though by law the president needs Congress’s permission to continue any military campaign past the 60-day mark.
On Tuesday, the Senate voted 50-47 to advance a measure that would force Trump to end the war on Iran or win congressional authorization.
Alaska Sen. Lisa Murkowski was one of four Republicans who joined Democrats in voting to bring the measure to the floor for a vote, citing the expiration of the 60-day limit, but Sullivan once again voted to allow Trump to continue the war.
The president’s war on Iran has brought shipping to a near standstill in the Strait of Hormuz, creating a bottleneck for global oil supplies from the Gulf that has sent prices soaring.
Prices for gas and heating fuel in rural communities are even higher, with some areas paying $10 per gallon […] and things are only expected to get worse this summer, the Anchorage Daily News reported in April.

Alaska Senator Dan Sullivan asked supporters to cough up a few bucks for gas money — after publicly backing President Donald Trump’s war in Iran, which has spiked global fuel prices, according to a new report.
The GOP lawmaker’s request came in a May 11 fundraising email, which included the subject line: “Alaska needs you!!”
The email went on to outline how the contributions would be used.

Sen. Dan Sullivan says he needs help from donors who can chip in $3, $5 or $10 to help pay his campaign gas bills.
His campaign has sent out a fund-raising pitch that says he needs donations to pay for fuel, the price of which leaped after Trump went to war with Iran.
The Sullivan plea for gas in the tank is a self-inflicted campaign wound that will last. Challenger Mary Peltola and others will make sure that no one misses it.
Sullivan has been quiet on Golden Age fuel bills, but don’t forget that four years ago, when Putin attacked Ukraine, Sullivan said the rise in gasoline prices to $4.70 a gallon in Anchorage was entirely Biden’s fault. He was appalled at how much it had cost him to fill up his truck.
