On National Veterans of Foreign Wars Day, Dan Sullivan’s continued record of voting to slash benefits for veterans, cutting funding from Alaska’s military bases, and sending American servicemembers to fight in the needless, price-hiking war in Iran is under the microscope. 

“Dan Sullivan cast the deciding vote to slash food assistance for Alaska veterans, has backed devastating cuts to the VA, and is still voting to send American servicemembers to fight in his needless, price-hiking war in Iran all while spiking veterans’ cost of living to secure tax breaks for his billionaire backers and millionaires like himself,” said Alaska Democratic Party Chair Eric Croft. “Dan Sullivan has put Lower 48 special interests first and Alaska’s veterans last.”

Sullivan’s vote for the One Big Beautiful Bill Act slashed food assistance historically relied on by veterans, making it harder and harder for Alaska veterans to afford groceries. When confronted about his cuts to veterans’ food assistance, Sullivan doubled down on this anti-veteran policy. He also supported deep cuts to the programs and services veterans rely on, including critical VA jobs and healthcare.

In addition to cutting funding for critical VA infrastructure, Dan Sullivan has also backed cuts to critical funding for Alaska’s military bases. Fort Greely, which is responsible for protecting the U.S. from nuclear missile attacks, nearly suffered “mission failure” due to personnel cuts caused by Sullivan-supported DOGE cuts. Sullivan previously voted against an appropriations bill that provided over $200 million to Ft. Greely, which provided most of the economic base of Alaska’s Delta region.

Sullivan also just cast his 14th vote in support of the price-hiking, needless war in Iran that has caused at least 19 deaths and wounded 861 U.S. servicemembers, with recent reporting finding that the fatalities may be higher than the Pentagon has publicly disclosed.
