SILENT SULLIVAN: Dan Sullivan Refuses to Comment On Price-Hiking Canadian Tariffs Hitting Alaskans

Despite Alaska being “uniquely vulnerable” to the impact of Dan Sullivan’s price-hiking tariffs, new reporting revealed that Sullivan “did not respond to requests for comment” on the new 50 percent tariff proposed on Canadian goods, despite Alaskans facing a cost of living crisis that he created.

As a state that borders Canada, Alaska is “on the front lines” of Sullivan’s “North American trade war.”

“Of course Dan Sullivan is silent when asked about his tariffs that are driving up costs for Alaskans,” said Alaska Democratic Party Chair Eric Croft. “Multimillionaire Dan Sullivan has voted six times for the tariffs that are wreaking havoc on our economy, and Alaskans are paying the price — literally. Sullivan is a coward who stays silent and pads his own pockets while Alaskans foot the bill.”

Dan Sullivan has voted for these tariffs and against the best interests of Alaskans each and every time they’ve come up for a vote (4/2/25, 4/30/25, 4/30/25, 10/28/25, 10/29/25, 10/30/25).

In case Dan Sullivan needs a reminder, here’s how those tariffs impacted Alaskans the last time:

  • An expert quoted by Alaska Public Media was blunt: “Tariffs are just one form of taxation. They are a tax… anytime you hear the administration talking about a country paying tariffs, hold on to your wallet, because that means it’s you.”

  • ConocoPhillips, one of Alaska’s largest employers, laid off up to a quarter of its workforce amid economic impacts of the Sullivan-supported trade war.

  • One Canadian official who spoke to the Alaska Beacon said “Alaskans should know that the Trump administration’s tariffs on Canadian goods will make life more expensive for them, and will be damaging to businesses on both sides of the border.”
