REMINDER: Dan Sullivan-Backed Tariffs Force Alaska Businesses to Raise Prices on Customers

Dan Sullivan’s tariffs have wreaked havoc on Alaska’s economy, forcing layoffs and spiking prices on everything from groceries to housing, and now Alaska business owners are facing uncertainty and higher costs as the trade war with Canada escalates to include fifty percent tariffs on several products traded between the countries.

“Dan Sullivan has voted six times for the tariffs that are wreaking havoc on Alaska’s economy, and Alaskans are paying the price,” said Alaska Democratic Party Chair Eric Croft. “But now, he has nothing to say as business owners face impossible decisions amid the unpredictability caused by his tariffs, and Alaskans pay more. Sullivan is a coward who stays silent and pads his own pockets while Alaskans foot the bill.”

Alaska business owners say that “prices are going up” and “there’s times that you have to raise prices” for customers, but “fifty percent is a lot.

Canada is one of Alaska’s top trading partners as Alaska imports more than $1 billion in goods annually and exports more than $600 million in goods to Canada. Despite Alaska being “uniquely vulnerable” to the impact of Dan Sullivan’s price-hiking tariffs, Sullivan “did not respond to requests for comment” on the new 50 percent tariff proposed on Canadian goods, despite Alaskans facing a cost of living crisis that he created.
