PATIENT’S BILL OF RIGHTS ANNIVERSARY: Dan Sullivan Voted to Skyrocket Alaskans’ Healthcare Costs

On the anniversary of the Affordable Care Act’s Patient’s Bill of Rights going into effect, Alaskans are facing skyrocketing healthcare costs due to the expiration of tax credits Dan Sullivan voted to end seven times (9/30/25, 10/1/25, 10/3/25, 10/6/25, 10/8/25, 10/9/25, 11/10/25).

“Alaskans counted on these ACA tax credits to afford life-saving healthcare, but it didn’t stop Dan Sullivan from voting to rip them away,” said Alaska Democratic Party Chair Eric Croft. “Now, Alaskans are struggling to afford healthcare and medications while he and his Lower 48 billionaire backers get richer. Self-Serving Sullivan has put Alaska last every day in DC, and he will answer for his indefensible vote at the ballot box in November.”

Reporting from the Anchorage Daily News revealed that Premera Blue Cross Blue Shield, which covers almost 20,000 Alaskans, “is looking to raise its rates next year by more than 26%,” while Moda, “the only other insurance company offering plans through Alaska’s individual market,” proposed to raise rates by almost 10%. It also laid out how cuts to Medicaid spending could increase the number of uninsured Alaskans, leading to increased rates to make up for lost revenue. Dan Sullivan cast the deciding vote for those cuts.

Alaskans’ premium costs on the whole are increasing by 125% – one of the steepest increases in premiums in the country – while two Alaska clinics have already closed, five additional hospitals are at risk of closure, and nearly 10,000 fewer Alaskans are on Medicaid following Sullivan’s One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA) being signed into law. So far this year, more than 3,000 Alaskans have already dropped their healthcare coverage through the individual marketplace.
