New Reporting Exposes Dan Sullivan’s Assault on Alaskans’ Healthcare

Report shows healthcare costs have increased for 27,000 Alaskans following Sullivan’s anti-healthcare votes, with many priced out of coverage altogether.

A damning new report documents the real cost of Dan Sullivan’s atrocious healthcare record: 27,000 Alaskans facing skyrocketing premiums, massive cuts to Medicaid – which nearly one third of the state rely on, and thousands of families being forced to forego coverage altogether.

“Dan Sullivan has proven he’ll put Big Pharma and insurance companies before Alaskans every time,” said Alaska Democratic Party Chair Eric Croft. “He gutted Medicaid, voted to raise healthcare costs on tens of thousands of his own constituents, and has priced thousands of Alaskans out of coverage altogether. Self-Serving Sullivan’s record is clear: he’s an out-of-touch millionaire who has sold out Alaska to special interests — and Alaskans won’t forget it.”

The report lays out the damage in stark terms:

  • Sullivan repeatedly blocked efforts to extend critical ACA subsidies, and “the subsidies expired, sending premiums up for 27,000 Alaskans, nearly 4 percent of state residents”

  • “Alaska has a higher cost of living than most other states and has seen premiums rise more as a result. Middle income Alaskans who’ve lost subsidies altogether have seen bills quadruple.”

  • “Overall rates were projected to more than double in Alaska, according to KFF, a nonpartisan health policy think tank.”

  • “More than 3,000 Alaskans have dropped off the Obamacare rolls as of January, an 11 percent decline, with more expected as high premiums sink in.”

This is only the tip of the iceberg on Dan Sullivan’s quest to kick Alaskans off their healthcare – the report also dives into his vote to cut “more than $1 trillion from Medicaid, which about a third of Alaskans rely on.” Alaska’s own hospital association called the cuts “devastating.” The state’s bipartisan legislative leaders warned that Alaska “cannot survive” them.
