As Alaskans face a housing shortage that is making life more expensive across the state, Dan Sullivan voted against funding to build 10,000 new affordable homes in Alaska, once again putting us last while putting himself first.

Almost half of Alaskan voters have experienced at least one “indicator of housing precarity” and a third have cut back significantly on essentials in order to afford their housing.

“Self-Serving Sullivan betrayed Alaska once again by voting against something that would bring down costs and improve the lives of thousands of Alaskans,” said Alaska Democratic Party Chair Eric Croft. “Every Alaskan deserves access to affordable, quality housing, and Dan Sullivan has failed us once again because the only thing he’s worried about is lining his own pockets.”

The lack of housing in Alaska has been a persistent problem that has gone unaddressed. Data from 2018 found that Alaska needs to increase housing construction by 90% to alleviate overcrowding and keep up with population changes. An amendment expanding the HOME Investment Partnerships Program, which Self-Serving Sullivan voted against, would have built 10,000 new energy efficient and affordable homes for Alaskans.
