Today at the Kodiak Fisheries Debate, Alaskans were reminded that Dan Sullivan has supported the DOGE cuts that slashed National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) jobs and funding, gutting critical research tools and data for Alaska’s coastal communities. 

FISH FACT: NOAA ended 2025 with 101 fewer Alaska jobs than it started with, due to Sullivan-supported DOGE cuts, including jobs in weather forecasting and fisheries science.

FISH FACT: For two decades, Alaskans and Arctic scientists have relied on the National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Arctic Report Card, a “critical tool used to inform decisions and policies about the fastest-warming part of the world,” and Dan Sullivan has been silent as federal support for critical arctic research is stripped away.

FISH FACT: The Arctic Report Card summarizes Arctic conditions like sea ice, glacial melt, marine productivity and the status of Arctic wildlife species, all which are critical to informing policy around Alaska fisheries. Sullivan is silent on the withdrawal of support for this critical report, despite his colleague in the Senate saying this reflects a troubling federal trend that is “undercutting of scientific research at a pivotal time for the Arctic” and “we need to invest more in the region, not less.”
