Back to School: Dan Sullivan’s Price-Hiking Agenda Is Raising School Supplies Costs for Alaskan Families

As Alaskans prepare to send their children back to school, families are being squeezed by record-high costs thanks to Dan Sullivan’s price-hiking agenda.

Sullivan-supported tariffs are causing school supplies to be more expensive than they were before, as many back to school necessities like “all the paper items, pens, glue sticks, computers — tend to be imported.”

“With school starting soon, Dan Sullivan has Alaska parents paying the price in the store aisles for his disastrous policies,” said Alaska Democratic Party Chair Eric Croft. “Sullivan’s votes for the price-hiking war in Iran are already spreading families’ budgets thin as the price of gas goes up, and there’s no relief in sight as Dan Sullivan continues to serve himself at the expense of Alaskan families.”

Lunchboxes cost, on average, nearly $19 this year, a more than 26% increase over the $14.91 average last year. Notebooks are running parents $5, an increase over the $4 average price from last year.

Alaska is “uniquely vulnerable” to the impact of tariffs, which have raised prices in the state and cost Alaskan families “hundreds of dollars.” Dan Sullivan voted to support the imposed tariffs each time they went up for a vote (4/2/25, 4/30/25, 4/30/25, 10/28/25, 10/29/25, 10/30/25).
