Alaska Democratic Party Demands a Fair Fight in House District 22

The Alaska Democratic Party sues the Division of Elections over its qualification of a legislative candidate with allegedly no income or financial associations.

The Alaska Democratic Party has filed suit against the Division of Elections over its qualification of Mr. Jose Roel Antonio Tagle, a candidate for House District 22 who disclosed no income or business interests in his Public Official Financial Disclosure, despite at least having a 40% ownership interest in an Alaska business corporation.

“Alaska’s disclosure laws exist to protect voters, so Alaskans can understand potential conflicts,” said Alaska Democratic Party Executive Director Jenny-Marie Stryker. “When a candidate does not even attempt to disclose their financial interests, voters are left in the dark. The Division of Elections has a responsibility to enforce candidate eligibility requirements.

A fair fight requires everyone to follow the same rules–and the Division of Elections shouldn’t get to skip enforcing those rules when a Republican breaks them.”
