As Alaskans send their children back to school, Alaska Beacon reports that Dan Sullivan-supported cuts to food benefits that Alaskans rely on may lead to students going hungry without school-supplied breakfast and lunch. 

“Dan Sullivan voted to cut food benefits and take food off of families’ tables,” said Alaska Democratic Party Chair Eric Croft. “Dan Sullivan knew full well that his bill would gut the programs our state relies on, and now Alaskans are struggling to get by and feed their children heading back to school while he and his Lower 48 billionaire backers get richer. Self-Serving Sullivan has put Alaska last every day in DC, and he will answer for his indefensible vote at the ballot box in November.”

Because of Dan Sullivan’s deciding vote for the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, 27,000 families in Alaska are projected to lose some or all of their food benefits as grocery prices continue to remain high. Many students who receive free school meals automatically qualify because of their household participation in food assistance, and “a reduction in those social service programs can directly threaten their eligibility for free school meals.”

Alaskans are paying 20% more for groceries than the rest of the country, all while Dan Sullivan is dining at luxury DC steakhouses, spending $3,000 at the 116 Club, “a private establishment well-known among DC power players,” and $6,500 at Bistro Cacao, a “French restaurant and one of his most frequented spots.”
