“On behalf of Social Security Works, I am here to present Dan with the Roadblock to Social Security award,” said Bowzer. “Sullivan has undermined Social Security and jeopardized the retirement benefits Alaskans have paid into for their entire lives, and most egregiously, he has continually proposed raising the retirement age. We at Social Security Works hope that Dan Sullivan can find a good spot on his desk for this because he only has a few months more to enjoy it before Alaskans elect Mary Peltola as their next senator.”
“All of us should be pretty alarmed. There are a couple of things I want as I grow old. I don’t want to be a burden on my family and the people around me, and I want to have the resources to live with dignity through the last chapter of my life,” said David Grinde, Social Security recipient. “Wealthy people don’t have these concerns. Dan’s got a net worth north of $8 million and it’s growing every day. He doesn’t have the worries that normal people have, so it’s no wonder he’s voted against protecting Social Security.”
“As a 74-year-old retiree, I am watching that promise break right in front of us. Seniors like me could see our monthly checks cut, forcing us to make impossible choices between buying medicine or paying for heat,” said Dave Musgrave, Social Security recipient. “Retirees on fixed incomes and working families are getting squeezed harder than ever in Alaska. For hardworking Alaskans, stretching a budget is becoming impossible. On November 3rd it is time to protect Social Security for generations to come and say no to Dan and yes to Mary Peltola.”
“We have the fastest aging population here in Alaska,” said Rep. Mina, Chair of Alaska House Committee on Health and Social Services. “Senator Dan Sullivan has been part of targeting and gutting Medicaid benefits that seniors rely on, and now he’s doing the same to Social Security. I want to help my constituents. We’re doing the best we can on a state level in order to make sure we are funding this safety net, but we need to make sure we have a Senator who is in touch, and I’m sure that Senator Sullivan will be hearing from Alaskans in November.”
Dan Sullivan has voted against protecting Social Security and has jeopardized the Social Security benefits Alaskans have earned by proposing raising the retirement age and voting to create a “back door for privatizing Social Security.”
