For two decades, Alaskans and Arctic scientists have relied on the National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Arctic Report Card, a “critical tool used to inform decisions and policies about the fastest-warming part of the world,” and Dan Sullivan is now silent as federal support for critical arctic research is stripped away.

“So many Alaskans rely on the Arctic Report Card’s findings, yet Dan Sullivan supported mass firings at NOAA and is silent as DC slashes even more funding,” said Alaska Democratic Party Chair Eric Croft. “Sullivan is a coward when it comes to standing up for Alaskans and the services we depend on, and we will vote him out in November.”

The Arctic Report Card summarizes Arctic conditions like sea ice, glacial melt, marine productivity and the status of Arctic wildlife species, all which are critical to many Alaskans’ way of life. Sullivan is silent on the withdrawal of support for this critical report, despite his colleague in the Senate saying this reflects a troubling federal trend that is “undercutting of scientific research at a pivotal time for the Arctic” and “we need to invest more in the region, not less.”

NOAA ended 2025 with 101 fewer Alaska jobs than it started with, due to Sullivan-supported DOGE cuts, including jobs in weather forecasting and fisheries science.
