Alaska small businesses are the latest casualty of Dan Sullivan’s price-hiking agenda. New reporting from KHNS details how surging shipping costs resulting from the Sullivan-supported war in Iran are hitting small business owners across the state, squeezing margins and raising prices for consumers – while Sullivan does absolutely nothing to provide relief.
“Dan Sullivan is bad for business,” said Alaska Democratic Party Chair Eric Croft. “Shipping costs are surging, small businesses are getting crushed, and DC Dan is nowhere to be found. Alaska small businesses deserve a Senator who stands up for them, but Dan Sullivan is too busy dealing special tax breaks to billionaires and tripling his wealth in the U.S. Senate to care.”
According to the report, three of Alaska’s biggest shipping companies are hiking their rates this month due to soaring fuel costs resulting from the Sullivan-supported war in Iran. Alaska Marine Lines is increasing freight costs by as much as 68% — a devastating blow for small business owners already struggling to make ends meet.
“It will have a big impact, no doubt about it. The shipping on all of our goods will increase,” said one Skagway small business owner. “Yes, it impacts us,” said Haines business owner Glenda Gilbert. “The prices have gone up or will have to go up more.”
