Throwback Thursday: Dan Sullivan Took a Victory Lap on Gas Prices. Now He’s Hiding

Earlier this year, Dan Sullivan rushed to claim victory on gas prices, claiming that they had fallen 50% and declaring it a “huge lowering of the cost of living” (37:56). Now, as fuel prices continue their climb past $5 a gallon across Alaska – with villages already paying $10 or more a gallon – Sullivan is nowhere to be found. He’s put forth no plan for lowering costs and has no answer for the Alaskans he represents who are facing historic gas price hikes.

“As Dan Sullivan lines his own pockets, Alaskans are struggling to fill our tanks and seeing skyrocketing fuel costs show up in our grocery bills,” said Alaska Democratic Party Chair Eric Croft. “Since Self-Serving Sullivan seems too busy with his DC donors and his stock portfolio to answer to Alaskans for these high costs now, we’ll make him answer for it at the ballot box in November.”

It’s hardly surprising that Sullivan, who has reported up to $2 million in stock trades while serving in the U.S. Senate, is wildly out of touch with everyday Alaskans. He’d be hard-pressed to find a single Alaskan who felt a “huge lowering of the cost of living” this year. Alaska is, as Sullivan himself said, “uniquely challenged on transportation” (38:02), a reality that “drives up all kinds of costs” (38:10) throughout the state. It’s a real problem that demands real leadership, but now, as Alaskans are feeling the heat of skyrocketing prices on gas and groceries, Sullivan is dead silent.
