One Year Later: Sullivan’s Tariffs Have Meant Higher Prices, Lost Jobs for Alaskans

On anniversary of tariff announcement, Sullivan’s price-hiking agenda draws renewed scrutiny

Today marks one year of Dan Sullivan’s tariffs wreaking havoc on Alaska’s economy, forcing layoffs, and spiking prices on everything from groceries to housing.

“Self-Serving Sullivan has voted six times for the tariffs that are wreaking havoc on Alaska’s economy, and Alaskans are paying the price — literally,” said Alaska Democratic Party Chair Eric Croft. “Every family paying more at the grocery store, every worker paying more at the pump, and every small business owner watching their margins shrink can thank Dan Sullivan. He’s cashed in at every turn while leaving Alaskans footing the bill.”

Dan Sullivan has voted for these tariffs and against the best interests of Alaskans each and every time they’ve come up for a vote (4/2/254/30/254/30/2510/28/2510/29/2510/30/25).

Read more about how Sullivan’s price-hiking tariffs are raising costs for Alaska families, costing Alaskans their jobs, and hurting Alaska businesses:

  • Alaska is “uniquely vulnerable” to the impact of tariffs, which have raised prices in the state and cost Alaskan families “hundreds of dollars.”

  • An expert quoted by Alaska Public Media was blunt: “Tariffs are just one form of taxation. They are a tax… anytime you hear the administration talking about a country paying tariffs, hold on to your wallet, because that means it’s you.”

  • Tariffs took a “huge toll” on Alaska businesses, which report growing pessimism about the economy thanks to Dan Sullivan’s tariffs.

  • ConocoPhillips, one of Alaska’s largest employers, laid off up to a quarter of its workforce amid economic impacts of the Sullivan-supported trade war.

  • One Canadian official who spoke to the Alaska Beacon said “Alaskans should know that the Trump administration’s tariffs on Canadian goods will make life more expensive for them, and will be damaging to businesses on both sides of the border.”
