Organizing Director Will Focus on Voter Education and Outreach

(ANCHORAGE) The Alaska Democratic Party (ADP) is pleased to announce the hire of ADP veteran Wigi Tozzi to fill the role of Organizing Director for the 2022 campaign cycle. In this position he will collaborate with other staff and party leaders in creating and implementing a strategic plan to help elect Democrats at all levels.

Critical to the purpose of the position will be formulating strategy and implementation of a voter education campaign to help Alaska voters successfully navigate new voting laws in Alaska as a result of Ballot Measure 2. This citizen initiative, passed by a vote of the people in 2020, created one open primary ballot and a ranked-choice general election voting system. The Organizing Director will conduct intensive outreach to the diverse communities across the state, volunteer recruitment, and amplifying the work of our field organizers, communications team, and candidates.

This position is funded through ADP’s receipt of a generous and highly-competitive grant from the Democratic National Committee’s Red State Fund which was established last year under the leadership of DNC Chair Jaime Harrison. The Red State Fund is designed to build tailored programs in traditionally Republican states, and assert the value and importance of Democratic values.

As Organizing Director, Tozzi will also engage rural and indigenous communities across the state and will be a key team member of the Alaska Democratic Party’s Coordinated Campaign during a crucial election year when gubernatorial, U.S. Senate, U.S. House, and state legislature races are all on the ballot.

Tozzi has previously worked for ADP during a particularly challenging period running up to the 2020 Presidential election. He held the role of Presidential Primary Director when the party changed its procedure from holding an in-person caucus to a vote-by-mail party-run primary, and held its convention virtually for the first time. His Herculean efforts and organizational ability resulted in a smooth transition from caucus to primary, and a convention with the highest participation of any in our history.

“We are beyond thrilled to have Wigi back on board,” said Executive Director, Lindsay Kavanaugh. “The work that he did to transition the party to a successful vote-by-mail primary and a virtual 2020 convention was nothing short of stellar. His phenomenal organizing ability, his clear thinking and patience, and his dedication to Democratic ideals make him the perfect person for this new role. We already know that this critical component of our voter education and turnout will be successful. He has proven he can rise to the biggest challenges Alaska politics can dish out, and he’s ready to hit the ground running.”

Tozzi has already onboarded, and begins his new position effective immediately.
