ANCHORAGE – The leadership of the Alaska Democratic Party (ADP) today praised Pat Chesbro’s announcement of her campaign for U.S. Senate. Her declaration comes days after ADP held its biannual state convention in Seward, Alaska, where Democrats, looking for a true pro-choice advocate and proven leader, urged her to run for the office.

After moving to Alaska in 1974, Chesbro served in several educational roles in the Mat-Su and University educational systems, most recently as Interim Dean of the UAA College of Education. Chesbro earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English Education from Syracuse University and her Master of Science Degree in Reading Education from SUNY Albany.

Chesbro was instrumental in obtaining a $9.3 million federal partnership grant and became director of the Alaska Educational Innovations Network which created partnerships between rural and urban schools around Alaska including Anchorage, Mat-Su, Sitka, Lower Kuskokwim, Kashunimiut, and the Pribilofs.

She is the Chair of Board of Directors of the Palmer Museum of History and Art, a member of the Board of Directors of the Palmer Arts Council, Advisory Board Member of the Palmer Community Foundation, former Member and Chair of the Board of Directors of Alaska Family Services, and Interim Facilitator of the Palmer Coalition.

Chesbro was the recent recipient of ADP’s Jim Doogan Lifetime Achievement Award in celebration of her dedicated lifetime of advocacy for and promoting the values of the Democratic Party in Alaska. She is the former and current Chair of Mat-Su Democrats and a member of the Alaska Democratic Party Executive Committee where she serves as Regional Vice Chair.

“Pat is a proven leader whose unwavering commitment to Democratic values makes her a steadfast voice at a time when Republican politicians say one thing and vote another,” said Mike Wenstrup, Chair of the Alaska Democratic Party. “Alaska will be extraordinarily well-represented by her in the United States Senate and I am confident that Alaskans across the state will step up and give her the support she needs to win.”

“Lisa Murkowski’s recent promise to block Democrats’ bill codifying Roe v. Wade tells us everything we need to know,” said Lindsay Kavanaugh, Executive Director of ADP. Alaska needs a Senator who does what she says she will do, and who won’t vote to confirm Supreme Court justices who take rights away, pretend to be surprised when they do, and block attempts to restore those rights. It’s outrageous, and Alaska is extremely fortunate that a candidate of Pat’s caliber is standing up for Alaska, our constitution, and for women.”
