As Dan Sullivan doubles down on his support for the war in Iran that is spiking fuel prices across the state, rural Alaskans are facing the highest heating fuel prices on record, according to the most recent survey from the Alaska Division of Community and Regional Affairs.
“Alaskans are looking down the barrel of a long, expensive winter due to Dan Sullivan’s continued support for the price-hiking war in Iran,” said Alaska Democratic Party Chair Eric Croft. “It is completely unconscionable that at a time when Alaskans are being crushed by the price of fuel, Sullivan has ignored our struggles over and over, repeatedly voting to continue the war that is costing us more every day.”
The survey found that heating fuel in rural Alaska reached a record $7.97 per gallon in August, which was up 23% higher than prices in January, and the highest price on record since the survey began in 2005. In July, gasoline prices in rural Alaska averaged $7.56 per gallon. Prices in some communities were well above that average, including in Kokhanok, which had the highest reported price at $14.50 per gallon. Hughes reported $13 per gallon, Grayling reported $12.50 per gallon, and Arctic Village reported $12 per gallon.
Dan Sullivan has now voted in support of the price-hiking war in Iran a staggering 14 times (3/4/26, 3/18/26, 3/24/26, 4/15/26, 4/22/26, 4/30/26, 5/13/26, 5/19/26, 6/16/26, 6/23/26, 6/24/26, 7/23/26, 7/30/26, 9/24/26).
