Victory for Alaska’s Schools
Despite Mike Dunleavy’s political maneuvering, lawmakers came together during his special session to uphold the override of his reckless veto of HB 57. That decision restores $50 million in critical funding for our classrooms, protecting smaller class sizes, electives, and essential services for students across the state. It was a victory for teachers, families, and every community that believes in the future of public education.
Standing with Ukraine
When Donald Trump welcomed Vladimir Putin to Alaska for a hollow, failed meeting that left Ukraine out of the loop, communities across our state rallied in solidarity with the Ukrainian people. Alaskans made it clear: we support our allies, oppose the continued assaults on innocent civilians, and we won’t be silent when global democracy is on the line.
Meet our Data Director, Robert Hockema!
Robert was raised in Homer, where he grew up working as a deckhand on his dad’s drift netting boat and playing music on the Spit. When Alaska’s budget crisis erupted in 2014, Robert immersed himself in local politics and organized with his community to try and save education.
Robert studied Communications and International Relations at UAA, where he developed a unique passion for persuading others through political and community organizing. During the 2024 presidential cycle, Robert joined us as ADP’s resident data nerd. He focuses on marrying data storytelling about Alaska’s political history and identity, as well as managing our statewide voter contact database.
Aside from politics, Robert loves getting lost in the Alaska outdoors, fishing, playing his guitars, and watching his favorite horror movies.
We’re working to strengthen our schools, support our families, and build a more vibrant and sustainable Alaska for everyone.
