Alaskans are facing yet another round of punishing price hikes on Dan Sullivan’s watch. A report from the Chilkat Valley News lays bare what residents across Alaska’s more than 225 villages and communities already know: Fuel costs are spiraling out of control, and it’s affecting every facet of daily life.
“From Utqiaġvik to Juneau, Alaskans are struggling to fill their tanks and afford the transportation they depend on, and Dan Sullivan hasn’t lifted a finger,” said Alaska Democratic Party Chair Eric Croft. “He’s been too busy serving DC special interests to answer for what his inaction is costing the state — but Alaskans will make sure he answers in November.”
Alaska Seaplanes and Island Air Express — airlines that connect Southeast Alaskans to their workplaces, doctors, groceries, and mail — announced a 6% surcharge on all passenger fares. The hike comes as a direct response to the nearly 40% increase in jet fuel prices they’ve seen in the two weeks prior.
At the pump, the situation is equally dire. Drivers in the Haines area are already paying nearly $5 a gallon, and a local gas station owner quoted in the Chilkat Valley News report said diesel prices will climb to nearly $6.50.
Meanwhile, Dan Sullivan remains silent. While Alaskans struggle to fill their tanks and afford basic travel, Sullivan has tripled his personal wealth since taking office — and his voting record tells the story of someone selling out Alaskans to special interests. He voted against over $100 million in funding for the Essential Air Service that connects remote Alaska communities to basic necessities. He voted seven times to block an extension of Affordable Care Act tax credits that would have lowered health care costs for Alaska families (9/30/25, 10/1/25, 10/3/25, 10/6/25, 10/8/25, 10/9/25, 11/10/25). And he voted to gut food assistance programs relied upon by Alaska veterans.
