FAIRBANKS — Scott McAdams, the Democratic nominee in the U.S. Senate race, had 400 e-mails Tuesday morning. Many came from moderate and independent voters who hope he can stop Republican winner Joe Miller, whose extremism some fear represents “a direct threat to Alaska’s economy,” he said.

Democratic U.S. Sen. Mark Begich joined the chorus of support for McAdams, saying he and aides have already offered campaign advice.

GOVERNOR: Optional investment could prod project, candidate says.

The state's Democratic nominee for governor said Friday he wants to give Alaskans a chance to invest in a proposed pipeline that could ship natural gas to the Lower 48.

Ethan Berkowitz said he wants to create "Great Alaska Pipeline Inc.," a private-public partnership that could help overcome a hurdle for the proposed multibillion-dollar project -- financing.
